Types of Masking Tape
General purpose masking tape is highly recommended for all-around adhesion in the office or at home because it offers stronger tack. It is best for non-porous and smooth surfaces, but it leaves residue when removed. This type of masking tape is usually yellowish, tan, or off-white in colour.
Painter's masking tape is generally low-tack and good for drywall, fabric, or canvas. It prevents paint from seeping into unwanted areas, and it is often manufactured in colours like green or blue so it is more visible. It is advisable to remove this tape as soon as the paint dries (within 12 hours) because if you leave it longer, it may bond more to the surface, leave sticky residue, or peel dried paint.
