Blotting Paper

Blotting paper is a type of highly absorbent paper often made out of cotton that is manufactured on a special type of paper machine. Also called bibulous paper, blotting paper is commonly used to absorb excess substances such as oil or ink from surfaces of objects, especially of writing paper. It is also popularly used as a beauty product for absorbing excess oil from the surface of the skin. It is most useful for absorbing ink blot from spill and blot-prone writing tools like quills, fountain pens and italic pens. These types of pens are prone to leaving trails of extra ink, which tend to smear and blotch on pages. An alternative to sand shaking (during the olden times), blotting paper can be used to get rid of excess ink to keep written documents smear and blot free. A cost-effective substitute, blotting paper can also be reused as many times as possible, so long as it can still absorb ink effectively.

Types of Blotting Paper

Blotting papers differ in terms of thickness and softness. It is sold in rolled and pre-cut forms, such as blotting pads and blotting paper rollers. This special type of paper is also used in many other applications like chemical analyses (chromatography), drug distribution, and more commonly in writing. Blotting paper for cosmetic use is also popular. Blotting tissue, as it is popularly called, lifts excess oil as well as dead skin from the face.
