Torches
Torches are portable and hand-held light sources powered by electricity or batteries. Also known as 'flashlights', they have reflectors with light bulbs, lenses placed over the reflector and light source, switches, and batteries. Nowadays, most torches are powered by rechargeable and disposable batteries, but some are solar-powered or mechanically powered (you simply shake or crank it). Having at least one high-quality torch means better safety in the workplace whenever there is a power outage. Portable torches are also useful to bring in the car for trips when electricity suddenly becomes unavailable.
Types of Torches
Incandescent torches are the most general and widely-used types available. They are cheaper but with shorter lifespan because of the bulb, but they are still more favoured for heavy-duty use because they emit more light. An alternative to incandescent torches are LED torches, which is becoming popular because of the longer lifespan and resistant to rough handling, making them more efficient than their predecessors.
A less common torch would be the HID or high density discharge torch, which uses an HID lamp as the main light source. Unlike incandescent and LED torches, HID torches work because of a gas discharge lamp that relies on argon and metal halide salts, so they make more light than incandescent torches even if they require the same amount of power to run. HID torches are shock-resistant and long-lasting like LED torches, too, but they are specific to industries, military, and law enforcement, and are typically more expensive.
